What Does DPI Mean for Passport Photos?
DPI (dots per inch) determines print sharpness. A 213×213 pixel image at 300 DPI prints at roughly 1.8 cm × 1.8 cm — fine for portal uploads. At 600 DPI it would print at 0.9 cm × 0.9 cm. For screen uploads (IBPS, SSC portals), DPI doesn't affect the file — only pixel dimensions matter. This tool embeds the correct DPI metadata directly in the output file so print shops read the right resolution.

FAQ
What is the correct passport photo size for PAN card?
PAN card applications via NSDL/UTIITSL require a 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm photo, which equals 213 × 213 pixels at approximately 154 DPI — or 413 × 413 px at 300 DPI for print-quality. This tool defaults to 213 × 213 px for quick portal uploads.
What is the signature size for IBPS bank exams?
IBPS requires signature images of 140 × 60 pixels. However this tool defaults to 400 × 200 px which provides a higher-resolution version. Always check the current IBPS notification for the latest requirement.
Why does the DPI field matter if I'm uploading online?
For online portal uploads (IBPS, SSC, UIDAI), only pixel dimensions matter — DPI is ignored. DPI matters when printing: 300 DPI is the standard for photo prints. This tool embeds DPI so the file is print-ready in case you need physical copies.
Can I use this for Aadhaar card or voter ID?
Yes. Enter the specific dimensions required by the portal in the Width and Height fields. For UIDAI Aadhaar, the portal accepts JPEG images up to 50KB — use our
Image Compressor after resizing if the file size exceeds the limit.
Does resizing reduce image quality?
Upscaling (making an image larger than its original size) can cause blurring. For best results, start with a clear, high-resolution original and scale down to the required dimensions. Downscaling with this tool uses browser canvas which preserves quality well.
